Twin Cities Pop-Punk Bands Soundtrack Death of John Tucker
by Pete Farrell
7/28/2006 12:37:00 PM
Two Twin Cities pop-punk bands, Quiet Drive and Motion City Soundtrack, will feature on the soundtrack to the new teen romance flick John Tucker Must Die. If you want to support local music, I guess you could pick up the John Tucker soundtrack and lend your support to two hard-working bands on the verge of making it "big." Or you could take that money and spend it on something not completely devoid of social, moral and artistic merit. In that case, pick up the Motion City Soundtrack's "Committ This to Memory" or the new Superhopper. 'Cuz it's hot.

Pete Doherty Gets a Publishing Deal
by Pete Farrell
7/28/2006 12:24:00 PM
Pete Doherty, perpetually endearing fuck-up of Libertines and Babyshambles fame, is getting a book published. Since he's sort of, y'know, crazy, British publisher Orion Books offered Doherty 150,000 pounds for the rights to his personal diaries that detail, among other things, his relationship with Kate Moss and his neverending battle with drugs. Orion will release The Book of Albion in March of 2007.

Steely Dan Attacks Luke Wilson, With Words
by Ian Anderson
7/26/2006 01:30:00 AM
Okay, so I don't know how or why, but Steely Dan, you know, the band, sent Luke Wilson a piece of pseudo-hatemail. I can't explain it any better, I swear. Check it out on Steeley Dan's site here.

Superhopper Dish, Big Time
by Ian Anderson
7/14/2006 10:00:00 PM
I had the good fortune of catching up with Kermit Carter of Superhopper (who's hot new record comes out this week) to quick talk about the new disc and working on it. In short, he said:
"We recorded at the terrarium in march after demoing on our own for several months. Produced by Jason Orris, engineered by Dusty Miller and mastered by Dave Gardner at magneto. We branched out a bit and used a melodica and mellotron. Lots of booze and white castle went into the recording. Probably too much partying during the six days in the studio, but we're happy with the end result.

Future plans? we finally got new bassist Pete Biasi (signal to trust/falcon crest/ft the shadow government/total fucking blood) up to speed. Also: writing new songs for a full-length, getting out of town, finding someone to re-do our website and avoiding head injuries."

Sounds good.

Interpol Rekindle Friendship
by Ian Anderson
7/08/2006 02:53:00 PM
Interpol released a statement on their official website concerning the craziness of their back-and-forth band-status lifestyle Friday that stated: "Things are good. Gettin' some rest... gettin' some sun. We did break up - four times - but that's all behind us now. Carlos got a dog. His name is Gaius. Italian greyhound - looks like Carlos. Also, I think I'm moving to Jersey City; because that's where the action is really at. Whoever the people on MySpace are, they're not us.

In all seriousness, we're hard at work on the writing of album three. We've been at it for six months - in case you heard we were on hiatus. We're all very excited about it and think that you will be too. Having yet to record, we can only say that Release will come sometime next year."

The Rapture reveal new song
by Pete Farrell
7/07/2006 03:14:00 PM
Remember the dance-punk revolution? Neither do I, but a few years ago the Brooklyn-based Rapture were all the rave, mostly due to the strength of their killer single "House of Jealous Lovers." When "Echoes," the actual album hit, I thought it was a slight disappointment, but in retrospect, that probably had more to do with the fact that "House of Jealous Lovers" sound had worn a little thin by the time "Echoes" finally rolled around. Three years later, The Rapture return with "Pieces of the People We Love," which is slated for release Sept. 4 in the UK and Sept. 12 in the US. The band's still putting the finishing touches on the record, but you can check out their newest single, "Get Mysef Into It," at www.myspace.com/therapture. Enjoy.

Tom Waits Collects Fireworks, Money, and Goes on Tour
by Pete Farrell
7/07/2006 02:45:00 PM
Tom Waits, the gravel-voiced bard of these here United States, has announced a brief tour of the South and the Midwest. Waits tours infrequently--his last extended jaunt took place over two years ago. In other words, if you want to catch Waits, there's no time like the present. Here are the dates:

08-01 Atlanta, GA - Tabernacle
08-02 Asheville, NC - Thomas Wolfe Auditorium
08-04 Memphis, TN - Orpheum Theatre
08-05 Nashville, TN - Ryman Auditorium
08-07 Louisville, KY - Palace Theatre
08-09 Chicago, IL - Auditorium Theatre
08-11 Detroit, MI - Opera House
08-13 Akron, OH - Akron Civic

Waits reason for coming out of his shell? ""We need to go to Tennessee to pick up some fireworks, and someone owes me money in Kentucky."

Sparklehorse to Release New Album
by Ian Anderson
7/06/2006 07:29:00 PM
It's true! Come September 25, after a five-year hiccup, Sparklehorse will be releasing a hot new record, Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain. Although the record is guaranteed to be gem in its own right (in my opinion), the record also features the likes of Danger Mouse, Steven Drodz from the Flaming Lips and even Tom Waits. And now, my favorite, the track listing from the new disc:
1) "Don't Take My Sunshine Away"
2) "Getting It Wrong"
3) "Shade And Honey"
4) "See The Light"
5) "Return To Me"
6) "Some Sweet Day"
7) "Ghost In The Sky"
8) "Mountains"
9) "Morning Hollow"
10) "Knives Of Summertime"
11) "It's Not So Hard"
12) "Dreamt For Lights Years In The Belly Of A Mountain (aka Maxine) "
